AMIEU Newsletter  Enterprise Bargaining        Agreement 2002 No. 6  Date 18/10/02

 Attention!

All Meat room Butchers, Packers, Apprentices and Cleaners

Don't Let Them Get Away With it!

Woolworths have made a net profit of $523 million dollars representing a massive 22% increase on last year's profits.

The minimum 3.5% wage increase per year when measured against our lowest paid members is on a par with the recent $18.00 National Safety Net wage adjustment that was handed down to Australian award workers - these workers were not required to trade anything off - nor SHOULD YOU!

When Robyn Atkinson, Regional HR Manager met with Union Officials she asked What off sets were we prepared to concede?

Our response was that the company should consider productivity bonus schemes, whereby workers could be rewarded for reducing absenteeism, workplace injuries etc measured against realistically achievable Key Performance Indicators a situation where both the workers and the company would share in the benefits of increased productivity.

Her response was a flat NO - this was something her National Office would never agree to.  So much for trying to bargain in good faith!!

The Union has not rejected the company proposal - it is not our position to either accept or reject such proposals - we indicated in the strongest possible terms that we did not agree with their position and that we would not recommend that our members accept it  - we even suggested that if they had any doubts about how our members felt about it then we would be happy to conduct a general meeting if the company was prepared to pay our members wages to attend - AGAIN No Response!

You have made us very aware through - your comments, through your delegates and through your courageous support of the current industrial campaign that you are not prepared to sell out the next generation of Butchers and Packers.

So far over three thousand Woolworth's customers have signed a petition supporting your stand  Woolworth's management seem to be the only ones that are not listening.

Decent Wages and Conditions Belong to those who are prepared to Defend them

With Your United and Continued Support

You WILL Win
