Midfield Meats

It seems that some employees at Midfield Meats are being given incorrect information in relation to becoming a member of the Union.

Even though you work under a non-Union Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA), this does not mean you cannot be a member of the Union.  You still have the legal right to be a member of the Union and to have the Union represent you in any disputes in relation to the Company carrying out the terms and conditions of the AWA you work under.

The Union will represent you in any Workers Compensation disputes, or any dispute relating to your working environment.

The Union also represents its members in unfair dismissals.

UNION MEMBERSHIP FEE DEDUCTIONS

The Midfield Group does not deduct Union dues out of your pay.

Union dues are paid by filling out a Direct Debit Application form and returning it to the Union in the prepaid envelope provided.  Your bank will then deduct fees of $6.50 per week from your account and forward them to the Union.

The Union will issue you with a ticket every six months, which you claim in your tax return.

Union membership is the only way to protect and improve your working conditions.

It is now more important than ever, given the attacks on workers’ conditions the Howard Government is introducing when it takes control of the Senate in July.

Anyone wishing to join the Union can obtain a membership form by contacting your Union Organiser Jim Brittain on 0417 590889.

Union membership is the cheapest Insurance you will get!
