 Finding Out More


Finding Out Award or Agreement Information

So you want to know what kind of instrument covers your employment conditions, and how do you find out the details? The easiest way, and the way that gives you the best explanations, is to ask your Delegate or your Organiser.

This can give you the answer in all cases except where there are Australian Workplace Agreements (AWA). If you are on an AWA you should have a copy. Under the Howard Government's Workplace Relations Act AWAs are supposed to be given to you before you are asked to accept it, then signed by you. But they are also supposed to be secret so we can't put them on the webpage.

If all of the workers are on AWAs it is likely that you will not have a Delegate. But it is illegal to ask you not to be Union members so you can be a member of the AMIEU and could elect Delegates. You can certainly ask your AMIEU Organiser about your rights. If you are on an AWA and think that it would be a good idea to join the AMIEU before the AWA expires and needs renegotiating, you can join the Union. You can join without your management knowing about it. Speak to the Union Organiser in person or contact the AMIEU on the phone or by Email and we will provide any information that you need to join.

If you are in a workplace that is covered by the Federal Meat Industry Award you can link on to it just by clicking onto the company name. Similarly if you are on a Registered Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. When the certification is pending it may not yet be able to be picked up. For some strange unknown reason it is not possible to make links with the EBAs that cover BiLo or Coles.

If you work in a workplace that has an Unregistered Enterprise Bargaining Agreement you can only get the information from the Delegate or the Organiser (or the AMIEU office). Because they are not registered with the AIRC, there is no site with which you can easily link to get the details.
