CPI UP 4.2% ANNUALLY
CPI figures released on April 23 shows consumer prices have risen by 1.3% in the March quarter and 4.2% annually.
The annual inflation rate is now the highest since the one-off spike that occurred in the wake of the mid-2000 introduction of the GST.
On an annual basis, the goods rising fastest are transport and financial and insurance services (both up 6.8%) and food and housing (both up 5.7%). But there were some minor offsetting decreases in household contents and services (down by 0.7% over 12 months) and clothing and footwear (down 0.5%).
